Special Projects Update
As students and parents will no doubt be aware, Dorset Primary School is to benefit from the Federal Governments initiatives to not only stimulate the economy, but provide fundamental improvements to Primary Schools across the country.
Dorset will see improvements from two programs - the first being a round two allocation under the "National School Pride" program of a $150,000 grant which was approved for an upgrade of the school oval. This proposal is currently with Maroondah Council for approval, but will provide an "all weather" soccer playing field and synthetic athletic track on the present bottom oval area. Upon council approval work is schedule to commence and be completed before the end of 2009.
The second and more substantial program is a grant of several million dollars in round 3 under the "Building Primary Schools for the 21st Century" program. This money is to be used to build an indoor all weather gynasium / full size basketball court with accompanying art/music room, toilets and sport storage. This is a major improvement for our school and will provide an excellent facility for all manner of activities. This building will occupy the space off the Prospect Hill Road entrance to the school including the current asphalt area utilised for netball and special assemblies. Under the Building Primary Schools for the 21st Century program contruction is required to commence in 2009 and be completed between March 2010 and March 2011.
In addition Dorset has also been provided $250,000 for general improvements and maintenance. This money will be used by School Council to improve the existing facilities at Dorset eg. toilets, painting etc.
