In the Performing Arts program, students enjoy learning by participating in four very ‘hands-on’ areas of the curriculum, namely Music, Dancing, Drama and Multi-Media.
Students use a wide range of percussion instruments (tuned and untuned), along with their own voices, to develop their sense of beat, rhythm and pitch. Dancing choreographed pieces and improvised dances also help build each student’s development. Students also participate in a range of drama activities, all designed to help them express themselves and understand themselves and their peers more effectively. Multi-media lessons focus on creating, analysing and reflecting upon multi-media stories, whether they be in photographic, video, soundscape, shadow screen, or many other forms.
Dorset Primary School offers several lunch time clubs devoted to singing, dancing and performing. For further musical development, families may also choose to enrol their children into small-group keyboard lessons.
