The Dorset Difference

At Dorset Primary School, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to feel safe, supported, challenged, and inspired every day. Our school is more than a place of learning — it is a connected community where students are encouraged to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively.

Through strong relationships, inclusive practices, engaging learning experiences, and a focus on student wellbeing, we empower our students to become confident learners, respectful individuals, and active members of the community.

Learning at Dorset

Learning at Dorset Primary School is designed to build confidence, independence, creativity, and curiosity. We support students to become active learners who ask questions, think critically, collaborate with others, and take pride in their growth.

Alongside strong literacy and numeracy foundations, students engage in specialist learning programs including:

  • Health & Physical Education
  • Performing Arts
  • Visual Arts
  • Science
  • Italian
  • Digital Technologies & Library

Students also benefit from rich learning experiences through our kitchen garden program, leadership opportunities, wellbeing initiatives, and hands-on learning environments that extend beyond the classroom.

Student Wellbeing

Student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at Dorset Primary School. We foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where students feel connected, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Our staff are trained in restorative practices and social-emotional learning approaches that help students build positive relationships, resilience, emotional awareness, and confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

Growing Through Every Stage of Learning

Junior School

In the early years, we focus on building strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, independence, and confidence. Students are encouraged to develop curiosity, collaboration skills, and a positive approach to learning through engaging classroom and specialist experiences.

Senior School

Our senior students are encouraged to lead by example and contribute positively to the school community. Leadership opportunities, mentoring programs, and transition experiences help students build responsibility, confidence, and readiness for secondary school.

Year 6 Transition

We support students and families through a smooth transition into secondary school through high school experiences, transition programs, leadership development, and opportunities to build confidence and independence before their next stage of learning.
