Performing Arts
At Dorset Primary School, Performing Arts provides students with opportunities to express themselves creatively, build confidence, develop collaboration skills, and engage with learning in meaningful and imaginative ways. Through Music, Dance, Drama, and Multi-Media, students are encouraged to explore their creativity while developing important social, emotional, and communication skills that support success both inside and outside the classroom.
The Performing Arts program plays an important role in supporting student wellbeing, self-expression, and confidence. Students learn to work collaboratively, take creative risks, communicate ideas effectively, and develop resilience through performance and creative exploration. Participation in Performing Arts also helps students strengthen focus, listening skills, emotional awareness, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Throughout the program, students actively engage in four key curriculum areas:
Music
Students explore a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments while developing an understanding of beat, rhythm, pitch, dynamics, and musical expression. Through singing, listening, composing, and performance opportunities, students build confidence, creativity, and an appreciation for music from different cultures and styles. Music lessons encourage active participation, cooperation, and self-expression in a supportive environment.
